Family law matters arrive at the hardest possible moment, and they touch everything: where the children live, what the household can afford, and what happens to a home two people built together. The legal questions are usually narrower than they feel — but they still have to be answered carefully.

In Ontario, most separating couples deal with four issues: decision-making responsibility and parenting time, child support, spousal support, and the division of property or equalization of net family property. Some of these are governed by formulas, such as the Federal Child Support Guidelines; others turn entirely on the facts of your family.

Not every file belongs in a courtroom. Where a negotiated separation agreement or mediation can resolve matters, that is usually faster, less costly and easier on children. Where it cannot — because of urgency, non-disclosure of finances, or a safety concern — we bring the application and litigate it.

We act for clients across the Greater Toronto Area at the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, and we can conduct the entire retainer in Arabic or French where that is what a client is comfortable with.
